How bone stress injuries develop
Bone stress injuries rarely occur because of a single training session. They most commonly develop when cumulative training and impact loads exceed the body's ability to adapt and recover.
When training progresses appropriately, adaptation occurs and capacity improves.
When load exceeds adaptation capacity, injury risk increases.
IntelliLoad was developed to help identify factors that may influence this balance before injury develops.
Why IntelliLoad is different
TRAINING LOAD
Running volume alone rarely explains injury risk. Rapid progression, insufficient recovery, and returning from injury may all influence adaptation.
CUMULATIVE IMPACT
Many athletes participate in multiple impact-based activities. Running, field sports, HYROX, court sports, and tactical training can contribute to total bone loading.
RECOVERY & CAPACITY
Bone adaptation depends on recovery, nutrition, energy availability, menstrual health, sleep, and previous injury history.

IntelliLoad combines published research with sports medicine clinical reasoning to assess factors associated with lower limb bone stress injury.

A bone stress injury occurs when repeated loading exceeds the bone's ability to adapt and recover. It exists on a spectrum from early stress reaction through to stress fracture.
Can IntelliLoad diagnose a stress fracture?
